hello again friends, so happy you stopped by! in the next couple of weeks i will be spotlighting photographers who shoot film. as most of you know i have a soft spot in my heart for polaroids so when i stumbled across the work of a certain little lady on flickr i immediately fell in *love*. please let me introduce you to.....

1.) what draws you to photography?

The love of sunlight is my main draw to photography.
Although, ever since I started shooting with Polaroids, this little photography hobby has now evolved into a full blown obsession. ;P

2.) do you prefer digital or film? why?

I prefer film because it gives photographs such depth, dimension and character that I find lacking in digital photography. Don't get me wrong, I can appreciate digital photography, but there is something so pure and organic when it comes to film that the results often trump the predictability of digital.

3.) what is your favorite camera to shoot with?

I think I have 2 favorites! Both are Polaroids, one being the 680 SLR and the other is my SX-70. I find that my 680 gives such crisp, clean colours and I am also so in love with shooting with ATZ film on my SX-70. I also just bought a Polaroid 350, which might become another fast fave!

simple vegetarian meals: southwest pizza bagels

i have been using a meal planing system for a little over two weeks now and have found some new recipes that my family and i love. i didn't think i would enjoy meal planning. it all seemed like to much work. then i found a program suite for my mac! it's called "macgourmet deluxe" and it comes with everything you need to store recipes, import recipes from the web, build shopping lists, and plan weekly meals that can be synced with iCal. it has made meal planning fun and very easy to do!

southwest pizza bagels
(makes 4 servings)

 4 whole grain bagels, split
 1 4-oz. can chopped mild green chiles, drained
 1/2 cup nonfat cream cheese
 1/2 cup pizza sauce
 1/4 cup medium salsa
 1 cup shredded low-fat mozzarella or monterey jack cheese

1. Preheat broiler. Place bagels, split side up, on a broiler pan covered with foil. In small bowl, mash together chiles and cream cheese; spread over bagels.

2. In another small bowl, combine pizza sauce and salsa; spoon over bagels. Top each with mozzarella cheese. Broil for 2 to 3 minutes or until the cheese melts.

Serve immediately.

photographer spotlight: cheyenne

her work is raw, real life, honest, and beautiful. i enjoy it very much and i think you will too. let me introduce you to....

1.) what draws you to photography?

I think I'm drawn to just about any kind of creative project. I really like to make stuff and make stuff up. Photography is especially good for me because I can do it with little or no interruption to my work as a parent. It's pretty easy for me to focus on creating visual stories, or documenting our day with the camera while multi-tasking all the other random parenting stuff. Also kids make great subjects. I think children take childhood pretty seriously, and I try to document it with that in mind.

I also love photography because it's so versatile. Photographs can be anything - abstract, whimsical, documentary.

There is also this great nerdy technical side to photography - you're basically making art with a machine. So you can get into all kinds of different ways to affect the outcome by tweaking the mechanical or chemical process. There is really a lot to love about photography.

2.) do you prefer digital or film? why?

I like both digital and film - depending on the day. But I I had to chose only one, I would definitely chose film. When I shoot film, I'm very aware of the physical reality of the film. First of all, it forces me to make a lot of my technical choices before I even leave the house - what kind of film, asa, color or black and white, number of frames, which camera, etc. Consequently, I think very carefully about each frame. When I'm shooting with film I spend lots and lots of time thinking about shots, and I use very few frames. When I shot digital, I shoot and shoot and shoot and then throw almost everything away. The pictures I love the best are film.

There is also this magic about film. You have to go through many careful steps before you know what you have. The surprise and the delayed gratification makes it like christmas every time!
